Trigoniulus is a genus of millipedes belonging to the order Spirobolida and the family Pachybolidae. In agricultural settings, these organisms are recognized as significant soil-dwelling pests that can thrive in environments rich in organic matter and moisture, causing localized but intense damage to cultivated plants in tropical and subtropical regions.

These pests pose a threat to various crops, including vegetable seedlings, tubers, bulbs, and roots. By feeding on the tender underground parts of plants, Trigoniulus disrupts the uptake of water and nutrients, which ultimately leads to stunted growth, wilting, and, in severe infestations, the complete death of the seedling or plant.

The biology of Trigoniulus is highly dependent on environmental conditions, particularly humidity and soil temperature. Their life cycle consists of egg, larval, and adult stages, with larvae undergoing multiple molts as they grow. They typically reside in the top layers of the soil and are most active during moist conditions, where they consume organic debris and living plant roots alike.

The damage caused by Trigoniulus is characterized by ragged holes and deep lesions on roots and tubers, which serve as entry points for secondary fungal and bacterial infections. The pest's economic impact is primarily seen in the reduction of stand density and the loss of crop quality, as infected plant parts become prone to rotting and are often rendered unmarketable.

To effectively mitigate the risk posed by Trigoniulus, agronomists recommend implementing a range of preventive and corrective strategies:

• Optimizing soil drainage to eliminate excessively moist areas that favor millipede survival.
