Description

Trioxys pallidus is a beneficial parasitic wasp belonging to the order Hymenoptera and the family Braconidae. It is widely recognized in professional horticulture and arboriculture as a highly efficient biological control agent, specifically targeting various species of aphids that threaten tree crops.

The primary host of this parasitoid is the walnut aphid (Chromaphis juglandicola). In commercial orchards, this wasp plays a critical role in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs, providing natural regulation of aphid populations and reducing the need for chemical interventions, which helps maintain ecological stability in the orchard environment.

The life cycle of Trioxys pallidus is characterized by endoparasitism. A female wasp oviposits into an aphid nymph. The adult wasp later emerges through a circular exit hole cut in the posterior of the aphid’s remains.
