Trombidium is a genus of mites belonging to the family Trombidiidae, commonly known as velvet mites. In an agricultural context, it is crucial to distinguish these organisms from harmful spider mites. Mature Trombidium mites are generally considered beneficial or neutral inhabitants of the soil environment rather than plant pests.

The life cycle of these mites is complex, consisting of egg, prelarva, larva, nymph, and adult stages.
