Description
Trybliographa conjugens is a species belonging to the family Figitidae, within the order Hymenoptera. While many members of this family are known as parasitoids, Trybliographa conjugens is often noted in agricultural studies for its ecological niche and its impact on the root zones of cruciferous vegetable crops.
The primary hosts for this pest are members of the Brassicaceae family, including cabbages, radishes, and turnips. The pest is particularly problematic in systems where intense monocropping of cruciferous vegetables is practiced, as this provides a stable environment for the pest to complete its multi-generational life cycle throughout the growing season.
Regarding its biology and life cycle, the adult female oviposits in the soil near the roots of the host plant. Upon hatching, the larvae move to the root zone to feed. The pupation phase occurs within the soil profile, which serves as a critical defense mechanism against predators and environmental fluctuations, making the population difficult to eradicate once established.
