Description
The genus Typhloseiopsis belongs to the family Phytoseiidae, order Mesostigmata. These organisms are highly efficient predatory mites widely recognized in agronomy for their role as biological control agents rather than pests. They are essential components of integrated pest management (IPM) strategies for various protected and open-field crops.
These predators primarily feed on spider mites (Tetranychidae), but they may also consume thrips, whiteflies, and other small arthropods. By hunting these pests directly on the leaf surfaces, Typhloseiopsis prevents large-scale outbreaks that could lead to significant economic losses in greenhouses and high-value agricultural systems.
The life cycle of Typhloseiopsis depends on ambient conditions and prey availability. Under ideal conditions, they reproduce rapidly, passing through egg, larval, protonymph, deutonymph, and adult stages.
