While these spiders are primarily predators of smaller insects, their presence in agricultural fields is monitored by agronomists due to their web-spinning behavior, which can indirectly affect crop health and canopy architecture.

Unlike traditional pests that consume plant tissue, Ummeliata spiders primarily cause concern through the extensive webbing they create on foliage. This webbing can cover leaves, restricting gas exchange and photosynthetic efficiency. Furthermore, the sticky silk provides a substrate that traps dust and moisture, creating a micro-habitat conducive to fungal growth and bacterial infections on the plant surface.

The life cycle of these arachnids is closely linked to moisture levels and prey availability in the field. They typically undergo multiple molts before reaching maturity, with population peaks often occurring during periods of high humidity and thick crop canopy development.
