Description
Systematic position. The rose aphid (Wahlgreniella nervata) is a small sap-sucking insect belonging to the family Aphididae within the order Hemiptera. These insects are well-known to professional gardeners and agronomists due to their specialized ability to colonize and thrive on specific ornamental plants.
Affected crops. This aphid species primarily targets members of the Rosaceae family, with roses being its main host. While it prefers roses, its presence can also be observed on other related ornamental shrubs, causing significant stress to the host plants by draining their vital resources throughout the growing period.
Biology and life cycle. The life cycle involves both sexual and asexual phases. Overwintering occurs in the egg stage on the bark of host plants.
