Description

The sallow moth (scientific name: Xanthia icterictia) belongs to the order Lepidoptera and the family Noctuidae. As a pest, it primarily targets berry crops, with raspberries being particularly susceptible. The larvae of this moth are the most destructive stage, causing significant economic damage in orchards and berry fields.

The lifecycle of the sallow moth involves complete metamorphosis. Overwintering occurs in the egg stage, typically on the bark or branches of the host plant. With the arrival of spring, larvae emerge precisely when buds begin to swell. This synchronization ensures that the caterpillars have immediate access to the most nutritious parts of the plant.
