Yamatocallis sauteri is a specialized aphid species belonging to the family Aphididae, within the order Hemiptera. This insect is recognized as a significant pest primarily associated with maple trees (Acer), making it a subject of interest in both urban forestry and arboriculture.

The host range of Yamatocallis sauteri is predominantly focused on various maple species. By colonizing the abaxial (underside) surface of the leaves, these aphids gain protection from environmental stressors and predators while efficiently accessing the phloem sap, which is their primary source of nutrition.

Regarding its biological cycle, the pest typically overwinters in the egg stage, attached to the bark or near buds of the host plant. With the arrival of warmer spring temperatures, the eggs hatch, leading to the rapid development of successive generations throughout the growing season, which allows for substantial population spikes.

The damage caused by this aphid manifests as leaf yellowing, deformation, and stunted growth. Because they feed on sap, the plants lose vital energy reserves. Furthermore, the excretion of honeydew often leads to the development of sooty mold, which impairs the aesthetic value of the trees and reduces photosynthetic capacity by blocking light.
