The triangular fruit fly (Zeugodacus triangularis) is a significant agricultural pest belonging to the Tephritidae family, order Diptera. This species is recognized for its ability to devastate cucurbitaceous crops, acting as a major limiting factor for vegetable production in its endemic tropical and subtropical environments.
This pest specifically targets members of the Cucurbitaceae family. Primary hosts include crops such as cucumbers, pumpkins, squashes, melons, and bitter gourds. The adult flies seek out developing fruits to oviposit, ensuring the larvae have an immediate and high-quality food source upon hatching.
