The biochemical mode of action of this substance involves the inhibition of the tricarboxylic acid cycle, commonly known as the Krebs cycle. After ingestion, the substance is converted into fluorocitrate, which acts as a competitive inhibitor of the enzyme aconitase, effectively blocking cellular respiration and energy production, leading to death.

Regarding its application in agriculture, it is restricted to specific baiting programs for rodent management. It is not used as a herbicide or fungicide on crops. Due to its acute toxicity to mammals, including humans, its legal status is heavily regulated globally, often prohibited or limited to professional use in controlled environments.

A notable characteristic of fluoroacetamide is its high persistence and stability in various environments. Because it does not break down rapidly, its use poses a significant risk of secondary poisoning to predators and scavengers that may consume poisoned carcasses, requiring careful management of bait stations.
