In agricultural production, phytotoxicity is most commonly associated with the application of crop protection chemicals that unintentionally affect the health of the cultivated crop. Managing this risk is essential for maintaining yield potential and ensuring normal plant development.
Common triggers include exceeding label-recommended application rates, poor timing regarding crop growth stages, or improper mixing of incompatible tank-mix partners. Environmental factors, such as extreme heat or frost, can exacerbate the stress caused by pesticides, leading to higher rates of tissue absorption.
Visual symptoms often manifest as leaf chlorosis, necrosis, stunting, or tissue distortion. A major error in field practice is ignoring the interaction between the product and the crop's physiological state, which can result in long-term yield penalties.
