Variable Rate Seeding

A precision agriculture practice that adjusts the seeding density across a field based on site-specific soil characteristics and yield potential.

Также говорят: VRS, variable rate seeding technology, precision seeding

Variable Rate Seeding (VRS) utilizes prescription maps derived from soil testing, yield history, and remote sensing data. By integrating these maps with GPS-enabled machinery, farmers can precisely control the amount of seed deposited at any given location within a field boundary.

The primary goal is to match plant density to the yield potential of the soil, ensuring that high-performing zones receive higher seed counts while lower-yielding areas are seeded at reduced rates. This strategy mitigates competition for limited resources like water and nutrients, leading to more uniform crop development and optimized input costs.

Common pitfalls include relying on outdated spatial data and failing to properly calibrate seeding equipment for variable output. Incorrect zone definitions can also lead to under- or over-seeding, which may negatively impact yield consistency and field management efficiency.
