Sneezewort yarrow (Latin: Achillea ptarmica) is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. In agronomic terms, it is recognized as a persistent rhizomatous weed that often creates significant challenges in moist environments. Its common name is derived from the irritating effect of its dried leaves and flowers, which can induce sneezing if inhaled.

This weed is typically found in damp meadows, riverbanks, and swampy pastures. In agricultural settings, it frequently infests forage crops and perennial grasses, particularly in low-lying fields with poor drainage. Once established, it can form dense colonies that are difficult to eliminate due to its deep and resilient root system.

The biology of Sneezewort yarrow is defined by its extensive creeping rhizomes, which allow it to propagate aggressively even without seed production. It thrives in heavy, moist soils where other competitive plants might struggle. During the mid-summer flowering season, it produces white flower clusters that disperse seeds, further increasing its colonization potential across the landscape.
