Himalayan knotweed (Koenigia polystachya, formerly Polygonum polystachyum) is a robust perennial plant belonging to the buckwheat family (Polygonaceae). Recognized for its rapid growth, it has become a significant weed in various agricultural and natural habitats across its range.

It is commonly found in temperate regions, thriving in moisture-retentive soils. Within agricultural landscapes, it often invades field margins, riverbanks, and crop rows, particularly affecting cereals and vegetable production, where it competes aggressively with the primary crop for nutrients and growing space.
