This weed is typically found in forest and forest-steppe environments, where it poses a significant threat to grain crops, row crops, and perennial plantings. It thrives in soils with adequate moisture and is often found in fields where conservation tillage practices might allow perennial weeds to proliferate undisturbed.

The biology of Fringed bindweed is centered on its climbing stems, which can reach several meters in length, using other plants for support. This twining habit allows the weed to compete effectively for light.
