Chinese knotweed (Persicaria chinensis) is a problematic perennial weed belonging to the Polygonaceae family. It is classified as an invasive species in many agricultural regions, known for its rapid spread and ability to dominate disturbed habitats, particularly in moist and shady conditions.

This weed is commonly found in tropical and subtropical regions, posing a significant threat to tea plantations, orchards, and various vegetable crops. Because of its vigorous growth habit, it frequently invades irrigation channels and field edges, quickly spreading into the main crop areas and complicating agricultural operations.

The biology of this species is characterized by a strong, rhizomatous root system that facilitates persistent colonization.
