How to Grow a Rich Harvest of Vegetables on Your Plot

If you have a plot of land and wish to plant it with various crops, the harvest will not take long to come, and the dishes will bring invaluable benefits for health. Even on six hundred square meters, you can grow such a quantity of vegetables that it is enough to feed your entire family and make winter preserves. Cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, zucchini, onions, carrots, beets, radishes, greens must be present in a person's diet to fill the body with beneficial nutrients. If the size of the plot allows, vegetable growing becomes a profitable business. Experienced gardeners know that sometimes a lot of effort is invested in caring for crops, but the results are disappointing. To get a rich harvest, it is important to buy high-quality vegetable seeds. They ensure germination, plants are not susceptible to diseases, they grow quickly, and produce abundantly.

Choosing Seeds

Only seed companies can offer high-quality planting material, as they have been engaged in growing crops and developing new varieties for many years. Hybrids perform best because they tolerate drought well, the lifespan and fruiting period of the plants are extended, and some of them do not require fungicide treatment. For vegetable growers involved in selling their produce, an important factor is the transportability of the fruits. This is also taken into account by breeders when creating hybrid varieties. For growing cucumbers under protected ground, it is best to use parthenocarpic varieties, since they are self-pollinating, produce more female flowers, which contributes to increased yield.

Every vegetable grower strives to obtain early produce. To achieve this, various agronomic techniques must be applied, greenhouses must be built. When choosing seeds, the growing conditions of the plants must be considered. Therefore, it is necessary to purchase them where you will be consulted on this matter. Pay attention to the fact that stores offer packages with sufficient planting material for sowing large areas. This is convenient and cost-effective.

Rules for Planting Crops

If you have never grown vegetables before, it is advisable to study the information first, and then begin work. Some crops require early sowing and transplanting seedlings. These include:

  • pepper;
  • eggplant;
  • cabbage;
  • tomatoes;
  • seller.

The vegetation period of these plants can reach 60 days and more, so sowing seeds directly into the open ground in spring will not yield results.

To achieve good germination, it is necessary to soak the planting material. For example, celery is best sown as follows. In a prepared box with soil, lay down clean snow collected from outside, covering the soil evenly (this procedure should be carried out at the end of January). Then distribute the seeds evenly on the surface. When the snow melts, they will be at the optimal depth for germination.

Other crops are sown as seedlings in March or early April. Flowers will appear shortly after transplanting into the ground.

Agronomy

Care and attention to plants are the key to a rich harvest. Timely watering, fertilization, soil loosening, pest control, and weed removal are factors that are decisive for growth and abundant fruiting.

As soon as the snow melts, you can sow carrots and parsley on your plot, but only if the risk of frost below -5° is eliminated.

In late March and early April, sow lettuce, radish, legumes, and cucumbers. When nights become sufficiently warm, you can sow corn, zucchini, pumpkin, beet, radish, melons, and watermelons. At the same time, transplant seedlings into the open ground, having previously carried out adaptation measures. To do this, place the boxes outside, in a shaded area of the plot, and leave them there for several days. This is necessary to prevent the plants from dying upon transplanting. If the seedlings were grown in a greenhouse, leave the greenhouse open at night to allow cold air to harden the crop.

Special agronomic techniques have been developed to achieve early harvests. Warm the soil, construct various greenhouses and plastic covers to protect the plants from frost during early planting. This yields results even in northern regions of our country, where it is possible to harvest cucumbers and other crops 2-3 weeks earlier than usual.

With great desire, you can also grow vegetables in apartment conditions. Plant pots are placed on balconies and proper care is provided, yielding homegrown cucumbers, tomatoes, and greens.
