Shirley's wattle (Acacia shirleyi) is a distinctive tree species belonging to the Fabaceae family, specifically the Mimosoideae subfamily. In its native habitat, this species is known for forming resilient forest stands in harsh conditions, reaching heights of up to 12–15 meters. The culture is highly valued for its longevity and exceptional ability to adapt to extreme environmental temperatures.
The plant is native to Australia, where it primarily grows in the northern and eastern regions of Queensland. Shirley's wattle prefers rocky slopes and deep, well-drained soils. In its natural range, the tree is frequently found in dry sclerophyll forests, establishing unique ecosystems capable of withstanding prolonged periods of drought.
Botanically, the species is characterized by long, narrow, leathery phyllodes with a grayish-green hue, which assist the plant in moisture retention. The bark is coarse, dark gray to black, providing protection against natural wildfires.
