Beach false foxglove (Agalinis fasciculata) is a distinctive herbaceous annual belonging to the broomrape family, Orobanchaceae. Unlike typical crops, this species is a hemiparasite, meaning it performs photosynthesis while simultaneously tapping into the roots of neighboring host plants to supplement its water and nutrient intake.

The native distribution of this plant is centered in the southeastern United States. It typically thrives in wet prairies, marshy borders, and open sandy areas. Because it relies on host plants for survival, it is most commonly found in stable ecosystems where diverse herbaceous communities allow for successful attachment to a host's root system.

Botanically, Agalinis fasciculata is recognized by its erect, branched stem and needle-like leaves. Its most striking feature is its inflorescence: showy, pink to purple, bell-shaped flowers that appear in late summer. These flowers are highly adapted for pollination by specialized bees, which are essential for seed production in these populations.
