Purple three-awn (Aristida purpurea) is a perennial grass species belonging to the family Poaceae. In agricultural practice, this plant is recognized as a vital component of natural rangeland ecosystems, noted for its remarkable ability to thrive under severe moisture stress.
Native to North America, this species is widespread throughout the prairies and semi-arid regions of the United States and Mexico. The natural range covers dry plains where the grass has adapted to extreme temperature fluctuations and limited precipitation, developing dense, resilient bunches.
