Bunbury saltbush (Atriplex bunburyana) is a perennial semi-shrub belonging to the Amaranthaceae family. It is a highly specialized plant species known for its remarkable adaptation to arid and semi-arid environments, serving as a critical forage resource in regions with low precipitation.
Native to Western Australia, this species thrives in challenging desert landscapes. Its evolutionary adaptation allows it to flourish in soils with high salinity, making it an excellent candidate for agricultural land management in areas that are unsuitable for traditional crop production.
Botanically, it presents as a dense, branching shrub with grayish-green foliage. The leaves are covered in fine, salt-excreting bladders that help the plant manage osmotic stress. In terms of agricultural management, the plant requires very little input. It is best suited for sandy-loam soils and thrives in hot, dry climates.
