The native range of this species is largely restricted to desert and semi-desert regions, where it colonizes sandy substrates, rocky slopes, and desert scrublands. As an annual, its life cycle is synchronized with the availability of seasonal precipitation, allowing it to complete its reproductive stage efficiently within a short timeframe.
