This species is widely recognized as a classic foreground plant in the aquarium trade, valued for its slow growth rate, compact habit, and ability to thrive in various submerged conditions. It is a highly resilient species when established in a stable environment.
Originating from Sri Lanka, this plant naturally inhabits riverbanks and tropical wetlands. In terms of cultivation, it is predominantly grown for the ornamental plant industry. Farmers and enthusiasts maintain it in paludariums or submerged tanks, ensuring the substrate provides the necessary nutrients for the strong root system to anchor and propagate effectively.
Botanically, the plant features small, bright green, rosette-forming leaves attached to short petioles. The plant reproduces primarily through vegetative means, producing subterranean runners that develop into new rosettes. This spreading habit allows it to eventually cover large areas of the substrate, creating a carpet-like effect that is highly desired in aquascaping.

It prefers stable pH levels (around 6.5–7.5) and a temperature range of 22°C to 28°C.
