Echinodorus angustifolius Rataj is a graceful aquatic plant belonging to the Alismataceae family. Unlike broader-leaved species in the genus, this plant is characterized by its narrow, ribbon-like leaves, which provide a delicate, grassy appearance suitable for the midground or background of a planted aquarium.

The species originates from the tropical regions of South America. It typically inhabits marshes, streams, and slow-moving rivers. Due to its natural environment, the plant prefers substrates rich in nutrients, which allows it to establish a strong root system and maintain constant growth throughout the year in managed aquatic environments.

Botanically, it grows as a basal rosette. The leaves are light green, flexible, and can reach lengths of 30 to 50 centimeters. It reproduces primarily through the formation of adventitious plantlets on long runners or flower stalks. These daughter plants quickly develop roots, making propagation straightforward once the plant is established in the aquarium.

To ensure optimal health, the plant requires a nutrient-dense substrate and moderate to high lighting conditions. Ideal water parameters include temperatures between 22°C and 26°C, and a slightly acidic to neutral pH. Regular fertilization, including root tabs and liquid iron supplementation, is essential for maintaining vibrant color and rapid vegetative growth.

While primarily used in hobbyist aquascaping, growers should be aware of several common issues:

• Algae growth on leaf surfaces due to excessive light intensity.
• Nutrient deficiencies, specifically iron, leading to yellowing of leaves.
