The hybrid oil palm is a crossbreed between Elaeis oleifera and Elaeis guineensis, belonging to the Arecaceae family. This hybrid was specifically developed to combine the high oil yield and productivity of the African oil palm with the slower height growth and improved oil composition of the American species. It represents a significant advancement in commercial plantation forestry.
Native to tropical zones, this hybrid is primarily cultivated in Southeast Asia and parts of Central and South America. The crop thrives in environments characterized by constant high temperatures and abundant, consistent rainfall. It requires well-drained, nutrient-rich soils to maintain healthy growth and high fruit bunch development throughout the harvest cycles.
