Big-leaved aster

Eurybia macrophylla, commonly known as the big-leaved aster, is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. Historically classified within the genus Aster, this species was reclassified into the Eurybia genus based on specific morphological and genetic characteristics. It is highly valued in horticulture for its vigorous growth and large, heart-shaped leaves that form an attractive ground cover.

The native range of this plant covers Eastern North America, where it typically inhabits deciduous woodlands and forest edges. Due to its adaptation to cool, shaded environments, it has become a staple in temperate climate landscaping. It is particularly noted for its ability to thrive in settings where many other flowering plants struggle due to limited direct sunlight.

Botanically, the plant is characterized by its significant foliage, with basal leaves reaching up to 25 cm in width. The stems are sturdy and typically grow to heights between 60 and 120 cm.
