Flame kalanchoe

Flame Kalanchoe (Kalanchoe spathulata) is a perennial succulent species belonging to the Crassulaceae family. It is recognized as a significant ornamental crop, valued for its robust growth habit and the ability to produce vibrant, eye-catching inflorescences under controlled environmental conditions.

The plant originates from the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, specifically extending across China, India, and parts of the Philippines. It is naturally adapted to rocky terrain and open, dry forest environments, which dictates its preference for well-drained growing media in domestic and commercial cultivation.

Botanically, K. spathulata features fleshy, spatula-shaped leaves arranged in a basal rosette. The species is distinguished by its unique yellow flowers, which typically bloom during cooler periods of the year. The foliage often develops subtle coloration when exposed to optimal sunlight, enhancing its visual appeal.

Regarding agronomic requirements, this crop thrives in porous, sandy-loam soils that ensure rapid moisture drainage. Irrigation must be carefully managed to prevent root hypoxia. The plant prefers bright, indirect sunlight and is best suited for temperature ranges between 18°C and 25°C, requiring protection from extreme frost.
