The smooth cypress (Hesperocyparis glabra), also widely recognized under its previous name Cupressus glabra, belongs to the Cupressaceae family. This evergreen conifer is highly valued in horticulture for its distinct aesthetic appeal, characterized by a smooth bark that peels away to reveal creamy, light-colored layers, providing a unique architectural element in landscape design.

Native to the arid regions of North America, specifically Arizona, this species has evolved to thrive in rugged, rocky terrains and canyons.
