Kanuka (Kunzea ericoides) is an evergreen woody species belonging to the Myrtaceae family. Often confused with its relative, manuka, kanuka is distinguished by its larger stature, which can reach heights of up to 20 meters, and its smaller, needle-like leaves. It is a robust and fast-growing plant that plays a critical role in forest regeneration.
Native to New Zealand, this species is widespread across diverse landscapes, ranging from coastal areas to high-altitude slopes. Because of its hardy nature, it is frequently classified as a pioneer species, capable of establishing itself in nutrient-poor or damaged soil, which makes it a priority crop for soil stabilization and environmental restoration projects.

Additionally, the timber is prized for its high density and rot resistance, making it suitable for high-durability applications such as outdoor construction, fencing, and specialty fuel production.
