Botanically, the plant forms a tank-like rosette of stiff, leathery leaves that display distinctive chlorotic or green spots, which gives the species its name. The central "tank" of the rosette is crucial for the plant's health, as it serves as a reservoir for water and nutrient absorption, which is a key adaptive feature of the genus Neoregelia.
