Originating from temperate forests across the Northern Hemisphere, this fungus naturally decomposes dead hardwood. In an agricultural context, it has been adapted to a variety of substrates, including wheat straw, corn cobs, and cotton waste, making it a sustainable choice for waste recycling.

Botanically, Pleurotus pulmonarius is distinguished by its light-colored, thin-fleshed cap and a more delicate texture compared to other oyster mushroom species. Maintaining strict hygiene protocols, proper ventilation, and ensuring the substrate is fully colonized by healthy mycelium are essential measures for preventing significant crop loss.
