Algerian butterfly orchid (Platanthera algeriensis) is a rare species of perennial herbaceous plant within the Orchidaceae family. While not a conventional agricultural crop, it is a plant of significant botanical interest, often studied in the context of Mediterranean floristic diversity and conservation biology.

The plant is native to North Africa, primarily distributed across Algeria and Tunisia. Its range is highly localized, confined to specific ecological niches such as damp mountainous regions or shaded meadows that provide the necessary humidity and temperature stability required for its development.

The botanical structure of the species features specialized root tubers, a single upright stem, and a raceme inflorescence composed of numerous delicate, fragrant flowers.
