Rebutia cintia

Rebutia cintia (scientifically classified as Rebutia cintia or Cintia knizei) is a miniature succulent belonging to the Cactaceae family. This unique plant is highly prized by collectors for its distinctive flattened shape and its ability to thrive in compact containers, making it a staple in specialized indoor horticulture.

The native range of this cactus is located in the high-altitude regions of Bolivia. It has evolved to survive in harsh, rocky environments with extreme diurnal temperature fluctuations and intense solar radiation. These natural conditions necessitate a specific cultivation approach to mimic their native mountain habitat.

Botanically, this species is defined by its small, tuberous root system and a flattened, subterranean-like stem structure. The spines are typically inconspicuous or reduced, and the plant maintains a very slow growth rate throughout its lifecycle. Its unique morphology is an evolutionary adaptation for water conservation and protection against high mountain winds.

Regarding agrotechnics, the plant requires a highly porous, mineral-based substrate that allows for rapid drainage. Watering should be infrequent, following a strict "soak and dry" method, with complete cessation of water during the winter dormant season to prevent rot. Adequate ventilation is crucial to prevent fungal infections and encourage healthy tissue development.
