The native habitat of this species is located in the high-altitude regions of northern Argentina. Adapted to life on rocky, well-drained slopes, the plant has evolved to withstand intense solar radiation and significant temperature fluctuations, which are characteristic of its high-mountain environment.

Botanically, Rebutia marsoneri features a depressed-globose stem that grows in small clusters.
