Stylo (Stylosanthes guianensis) is a perennial tropical legume belonging to the Fabaceae family. It is recognized globally as one of the most significant fodder crops in tropical and subtropical regions, valued for its high nutritional content and its ability to thrive in challenging environments where other grasses or legumes might fail.

Native to Central and South America, Stylo has been successfully introduced to tropical zones across Asia, Africa, and Australia. Its capacity to adapt to diverse climates and its resilience to poor-quality soils have made it an essential component of pasture development and land reclamation projects in many tropical countries.

Botanically, the plant is characterized by its semi-shrubby growth habit and ternate leaves. While it prefers warm temperatures, successful cultivation requires consistent management of soil pH and drainage to prevent waterlogging, which the plant does not tolerate well.
