Canary creeper, scientifically known as Tropaeolum peregrinum L., is an ornamental climbing plant belonging to the Tropaeolaceae family. Originally native to South America, specifically the Andean regions of Peru and Ecuador, it is widely grown in temperate climates as a vigorous annual. Its rapid growth rate and delicate, bird-like yellow flowers make it a favorite for vertical gardening projects.
The historical origin of the Canary creeper traces back to the high-altitude cloud forests of the Andes. This adaptation allows the plant to tolerate cooler temperatures better than many other tropical species, although it remains sensitive to hard frost. Today, it is cultivated worldwide as a popular garden plant for covering trellises, fences, and walls in both private gardens and public landscapes.
Botanic characteristics include long, slender, twining stems that can reach heights of up to 4 meters under favorable conditions.
