Mashua (Tropaeolum tuberosum Ruiz & Pav.) is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Tropaeolaceae family. It is a significant tuberous crop native to the Andes Mountains, widely cultivated in countries like Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador. Known for its climbing vine habit, this crop is valued for its nutrient-rich, edible tubers which have been a staple in Andean diets for centuries.
Originating from the high-altitude regions of South America, Mashua is naturally adapted to cool, mountainous climates.
