Vanda sanderiana is a unique species of epiphytic plant belonging to the Orchidaceae family. Within the botanical community, this species is often referred to as the "queen of orchids" due to its extraordinarily large, flat flowers with a distinct netted pattern, which are highly valued by collectors and breeders.
The native habitat of this species is the humid tropical forests of Mindanao Island in the Philippines. In nature, Vanda sanderiana grows as an epiphyte on tall trees, deriving nutrients from moist air and rainwater trickling down the bark, which dictates its specific requirements for indoor cultivation.
Botanically, the plant is a monopodial orchid with a stout stem and long, leathery leaves arranged in two rows. The main feature of the species is its inflorescences, which can reach 40–50 cm in length and carry up to 10–15 flowers up to 10 cm in diameter, colored in pink and brown tones with a prominent network pattern.
Agrotechnology requires strict adherence to temperature regimes: daytime temperatures should range from +25°C to +30°C, with nighttime drops not falling below +18°C. The plant requires high humidity (over 70%), intense but diffused lighting, and excellent air circulation to prevent root rot.
