Vanda tricolor is a perennial epiphytic plant belonging to the Orchidaceae family. This large monopodial orchid is widely recognized for its spectacular and fragrant flowers, which feature a distinct spotted pattern in shades of white, yellow, and reddish-brown. The native habitat of this species is found on the islands of Java and Bali, as well as various regions in Indonesia. It typically thrives in mountain forests at elevations ranging from 600 to 1500 meters. As an epiphyte, it naturally grows on the branches of trees, which implies that it requires exceptional air circulation around its roots and high ambient humidity to flourish.

Botanically, the plant is characterized by a sturdy stem covered in dense, leathery leaves and a complex root system that lacks thick velamen, requiring specialized irrigation techniques. The inflorescences emerge from the leaf axils, bearing up to 15 large, waxy flowers. These flowers possess a long shelf life and are noted for their pleasant, often spicy or fruity scent.

Cultivation requires bright, indirect light, as direct sun exposure can cause severe leaf scorch. The temperature should be maintained at a moderate range with distinct day-night fluctuations, which are essential for inducing flower production. Maintaining high humidity (70–80%) and ensuring constant ventilation are the key success factors for managing this orchid in indoor or greenhouse environments.
