Carrot chordovirus (Chordovirus unicarotae) is a significant viral pathogen affecting carrot crops globally. The causative agent is a systemic virus that disrupts the plant's metabolic pathways, leading to stunted development and characteristic damage to the root system and foliage.

The primary host for this virus is the cultivated carrot (Daucus carota). While carrots are the main target, the virus can persist in various wild plants belonging to the Apiaceae family, which serve as latent reservoirs of the infection, maintaining the pathogen's presence in the field between seasons.

Symptoms of the infection include severe leaf discoloration, often manifesting as reddening or yellowing of the foliage, accompanied by curling and crinkling.
