Description

It is important to clarify that Dictyoglomi is a phylum of bacteria consisting of extremophiles, primarily thermophiles. They are not plant pathogens and do not cause diseases in agricultural crops. Their presence in the environment is typically associated with high-temperature habitats like hot springs, rather than the rhizosphere of cultivated plants.

These bacteria have no mechanism to infect plant tissues. Unlike true phytopathogenic bacteria, they do not possess virulence factors such as toxins or enzymes that degrade plant cell walls. Therefore, there are no symptoms of infection, such as wilting, chlorosis, or necrotic lesions, associated with this bacterial group.

The biology of Dictyoglomi is centered on survival and metabolism in extreme heat and anaerobic or microaerobic conditions. Because agricultural fields generally operate under mesophilic temperatures (moderate warmth), these bacteria cannot establish themselves as dominant species in typical farming soil ecosystems.

Agricultural damage caused by Dictyoglomi is non-existent. They do not compete with crops for nutrients in a way that would inhibit plant growth, nor do they interfere with plant physiological processes. In the context of soil ecology, they are considered neutral or potentially beneficial decomposers in specific geochemical contexts.

Because they are not pathogenic, there are no control or prevention measures recommended against Dictyoglomi. Farmers and agronomists do not need to apply any chemical or biological treatments to manage these bacteria, as they do not threaten crop yield, plant quality, or general field health.
