Frigoribacterium is a genus of Gram-positive, rod-shaped bacteria belonging to the Microbacteriaceae family. Known primarily for their psychrophilic or psychrotolerant nature, these bacteria are highly adapted to thrive in cold environments, making them a unique component of soil microbiome studies in agricultural settings.

In the context of plant pathology, Frigoribacterium species are generally considered opportunistic. They are frequently identified in association with various plant tissues, particularly in cold-climate agriculture. While not typically classified as primary pathogens, their proliferation in the rhizosphere can negatively impact nutrient uptake and overall plant vigor under specific stress conditions.

Crops most susceptible to colonization include winter wheat, rye, and early-season vegetables. The bacteria capitalize on micro-injuries in the root system caused by soil heaving, frost, or insect feeding.
