The organism belongs to the phylum Cyanobacteria. Its primary impact is not a direct parasitic infection of the plant tissue, but rather a disruption of the root zone environment. Through rapid colonization, it alters the chemical properties of the nutrient solution and physically restricts oxygen availability, which is critical for healthy crop development.
