Description
Micromonosporosis is a group of plant diseases caused by bacteria from the Micromonosporaceae family. While these actinomycetes are primarily known as soil saprophytes involved in organic matter decomposition, certain strains can act as opportunistic pathogens, negatively impacting the development of agricultural crops.
The causative agent belongs to the class of actinobacteria, characterized by the formation of branching mycelia. These pathogens typically infect plants through the root system, where they colonize the rhizoplane and can penetrate into the vascular tissues, causing systemic physiological stress to the plant.
This disease affects a diverse range of crops, with particular vulnerability noted in seedlings and plants grown in compacted or poorly drained soils.
