As a type of bacterial pathogen, these bacteria target plant tissues, particularly those with high moisture content, leading to cellular breakdown. The disease is characterized by rapid development, often causing significant tissue necrosis.

Various vegetable crops and leafy greens, such as lettuce, cabbage, and tomatoes, are particularly susceptible to these pathogens. Greenhouse environments, with their high-humidity conditions and close plant spacing, provide the most favorable climate for the development and transmission of Moraxellaceae bacteria, posing a serious threat to intensive agriculture.
