The disease is classified as a bacterial infection. The pathogen primarily resides in the soil as a saprophyte, but under favorable conditions, it transitions to a parasitic lifestyle. This shift is often triggered by mechanical damage to the plant or stress factors that compromise the structural integrity of the plant's outer tissues.
