Pseudomonadales plant diseases refer to a broad group of bacterial infections caused by members of the order Pseudomonadales. These Gram-negative bacteria are among the most significant phytopathogens in agriculture, responsible for diverse symptoms ranging from leaf spots and blights to soft rots and vascular wilts in various plant species.
The host range for these pathogens is extensive, affecting essential crops such as potatoes, tomatoes, brassicas, stone fruits, and ornamentals. The bacteria colonize intercellular spaces and xylem vessels, where they multiply rapidly and secrete toxins or enzymes that degrade plant tissues, leading to systemic infection and necrotic lesions.
Key diagnostic symptoms include water-soaked spots on leaves that eventually turn dark or necrotic, often surrounded by a chlorotic halo. In advanced stages, fruit and stem tissues may exhibit soft, mushy decay accompanied by a foul odor. Bacterial oozing or biofilm formation on the surface of infected tissues during humid conditions is a common indicator of bacterial presence.
