This bacterium thrives by colonizing plant tissues and interfering with normal metabolic functions, eventually leading to severe leaf damage and yield losses in susceptible agricultural crops.

The disease primarily affects cereal crops, with sorghum being the most significant host. In favorable conditions, the infection can rapidly move through a field, causing systemic issues that weaken the plant's structural integrity and significantly reduce its capacity to perform efficient photosynthesis.
