Sowbane mosaic virus

Sowbane mosaic virus (SoMV) is a significant plant pathogen that causes systemic viral infections in a variety of agricultural and horticultural crops. Classified within the Secoviridae family, this virus interferes with the host plant's physiological functions, leading to impaired growth and reduced agricultural productivity.

The host range of the virus includes several economically important crops such as potatoes, sugar beets, spinach, and grapevine. Furthermore, numerous weed species, particularly within the Chenopodium genus, serve as perennial reservoirs for the virus, allowing it to survive periods when no susceptible crops are planted.

The clinical symptoms of the disease are characterized by chlorotic spotting, mosaic patterns on leaves, and occasional leaf deformation.
